EXPERIMENT - Tracking Top 10 Cryptos of 2019 - Month Twenty-Two - UP +66%
Like crypto and numbers? Or want to detox from the first meme weekend? Welcome!
\Note - price snapshots are always taken on the 1st of each month, so numbers below are before crypto spiked in early Nov.**
See the full blog post with all the tables here.

  • Moons to first one to find the three hidden cultural references in this post.
  • What's this all about? I purchased $100 of each of Top Ten Cryptos in Jan. 2019, haven't sold or traded. Did the same in 2018 and 2020. Learn more about the history and rules of the Experiments here.
  • October - BTC had a great month, followed by Litecoin and BCH. Crypto diverged from traditional markets this month, a welcome change.
  • Overall since Jan. 2019 - Bitcoin (+262%) still far ahead, followed by ETH (+191%).
  • 2019 Top Ten performing best out of the three experiments.
  • Combining all three three years, Top Ten cryptos are tied with the S&P if I'd taken a similar approach.

Month Twenty Two – UP 66%

2019 Top Ten Snapshot for October
The 2019 Portfolio had a solid month, and was the best performer of the Top Ten Crypto Index Fund Experiments. Most of the cryptos ended October in positive or neutral territory, while the losses of the worst performers were no biggie (at least for crypto).

Question of the month:

In early October, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) charged this crypto exchange with illegally operating an unregistered trading platform.

A) Bittrex
B) Binance
C) Bitmex
D) That other crypto exchange that starts with the letter “B”

Ranking and October Winners and Losers

2019 Top Ten Ranking - 40% dropout rate
After losing quite a bit of ground in the rankings in September, the 2019 Top Ten rebounded a bit in October. Only BSV finished down on the month, down two places (from #9 to #11) and dropping out of the Top Ten. The rest either held or climbed: EOS, Tron and Stellar each advanced one position each and Litecoin picked up four places and was able to rejoin the Top Ten.
It’s good to have LTC back in the familiar confines of the Top Ten, as last month it found itself on the outside looking in, for the first time since the Experiments started back in January 2018.
40% of the crypotos that were in the Top Ten on January 1st, 2019 have dropped out: Tron, Stellar, BSV, and EOS have been replaced by BNB, DOT, ADA, and LINK.
October WinnersBig Poppa BTC had a great month, finishing up +25%. Second place goes to LTC, up +17% in October, followed by BCH, up +14%.
October Losers – The losses were moderate this month, but the L for October goes to BSV, which lost -7% and fell out of the Top Ten. EOS was second worst performing, down -5%.
For overly competitive nerds, here is a tally of which coins have the most monthly wins and losses during the first 22 months of the 2019 Top Ten Experiment:
2019 Ws/Ls
Because it's the default winner in down months, Tether is still far ahead in terms of monthly victories (7). That’s more than twice as much as second place BSV, BTC, and ETH. And although BSV is up 74% since January 2019, it dominates the monthly loss count: it has now finished last in nine out of twenty-two months (paying attention, swing traders?). And XRP is still the only crypto that has yet to notch a monthly win.

Overall update – BTC’s lead increases, XRP back to the basement, 2019 Top Ten pulls ahead of other Experiments.

BTC extended the lead it carved out last month over second place ETH in October. The top two are up +262% and +191% respectively, followed distantly by Litecoin, which is up +79% since January 2019. The initial $100 investment in BTC is currently worth $369.
For the first time since April 2019, BSV has dropped out of the Top Ten.
Twenty-two months into the 2019 Top Ten Index Fund Experiment, 70% of the 2019 Top Ten cryptos are either flat or in the green. After barely escaping the basement last month, XRP has once again sunk to the bottom of the pack, down -33% since January 2019.
At +66%, the 2019 Top Ten Portfolio has pulled ahead of the 2020 Top Ten Portfolio’s +61% gain and both are far, far ahead of the 2018 group , which is down -74% (more on that below).

Total Market Cap for the entire cryptocurrency sector:

Total market cap since Jan 2019 is +215%
Since January 2019, the total market cap for crypto is up +215%. The overall market gained about $50B in October, ending the month just over the psychologically important $400B mark. This is now the highest month-end level since the 2019 Top Ten Experiment began 22 months ago.

Bitcoin dominance:

Are you into BitDom?
After spending much of the year locked in the 65% range, BitDom took a short break in the summer to dip it low, but then has picked it up slow, and has now popped back up to 63%. As always, a high Bitcoin dominance signals less of an appetite for altcoins. Zooming out, the BitDom range since the beginning of the experiment in January 2019 has been between 50%-70%.

Overall return on investment since January 1st, 2019:

The 2019 Group gained $122 in October, so after the initial $1000 investment, the 2019 Top Ten Crypto Portfolio is worth $1,660.
2019 Top Ten Index Fund Experiment ROI
For some context, here’s a look at the ROI over the life of the first 22 months of the 2019 Top Ten Index Fund experiment, month by month:
2019 Top Ten ROI summary
Unlike the completely red table you’ll see in the 2018 Top Ten Experiment, the 2019 crypto table is almost all green. The first month was the lowest point (-9%), and the highest point (+114%) was May 2019.
At +66%, the 2019 Top Ten Portfolio is now the best performing out of the three Experiments but not by much: the 2020 Top Ten Portfolio is up +61%.
Speaking of the other Experiments, let’s take a look at how the 2019 Top Ten Index Fund Portfolio compare to the parallel projects:
Taking the three portfolios together, here’s the bottom bottom bottom line:
After a $3000 investment in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 Top Ten Cryptocurrencies, my combined portfolios are worth $‭3,537‬ ($264+ $1,660 +$1,613).
That’s up about +18% for the three combined portfolios, compared to +11% last month.
Here’s a table to help visualize the progress of the combined portfolios:
2018, 2019, 2020 Top Tens combined ROI
To sum up: +18% gain by dropping $1k once a year on whichever cryptos happened to be in the Top Ten on January 1st, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
But what if I’d gone all in on only one Top Ten crypto for the past three years? While many have come and gone over the life of the experiment, only five cryptos have started in Top Ten for all three years: BTC, ETH, XRP, BCH, and LTC. Let’s take a look at those five:

A tie: BTC catches up to ETH this month for leader of the Three Year Club
Up until this month, Ethereum would have been your best bet. As of the end of October, it’s basically a tie between BTC and ETH. Both are up +121%, (although BTC is technically $21 ahead of ETH).
On the other hand, if I had followed this world’s slowest dollar cost averaging approach with XRP, I’d be down -32%.
With BCH I would have just about broken even.
Alright, that’s crypto. How does crypto compare to the stock market?

Comparison to S&P 500:

I’m also tracking the S&P 500 as part of the experiments to have a comparison point with traditional markets. The S&P continued to fall from an all time high in the summer, and is now up +30% since January 2019.
S&P since Jan 2019? +30%
The initial $1k investment I put into crypto 22 months ago would be worth $1,300 had it been redirected to the S&P 500 in January 2019. +30% is not a bad return at all. But the 2019 Top Ten Portfolio is up more than double (+66)% over the same time period.
That’s 2019. But what if I took the same world’s-slowest-dollar-cost-averaging $1,000-per-year-on-January-1st crypto approach with the S&P 500? It would yield the following:
  • $1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2018 = $1220 today
  • $1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2019 = $1300 today
  • $1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2020 = $1010 today
Taken together, here’s the bottom bottom bottom line for a similar approach with the S&P:
After three $1,000 investments into an S&P 500 index fund in January 2018, 2019, and 2020, my portfolio would be worth $3,530.
That is up +17.6% since January 2018. Compared to a +17.9% gain of the combined Top Ten Crypto Experiment Portfolios. You can also compare against five individual coins (BTC, ETH, XRP, BCH, and LTC) by using the table above if you want.
It’s small, but that tiny 0.3% difference in favor of crypto. That’s now seven monthly victories for the S&P vs. three monthly victories for crypto, all clustered in the second half of the year.

Crypto re-takes the lead in October....barely

Conclusion:

Thanks mainly to Bitcoin, October was a good month for crypto and a good month for the 2019 Top Ten Portfolio. As traditional markets have struggled over the last few months, crypto seems to be headed in the opposite direction. I’m looking forward to seeing if those trends hold in the last few months of a crazy year.
Take care of each other out there, stay safe.
Thanks for reading and for supporting the experiment. I hope you’ve found it helpful. I continue to be committed to seeing this process through and reporting along the way. Feel free to reach out with any questions and stay tuned for progress reports. Keep an eye out for the original 2018 Top Ten Crypto Index Fund Experiment and the 2020 Top Ten Experiment.

And the Answer is…

C) Bitmex

  • First one to find the three hidden cultural references gets some moons.

  • September - BTC, although -8%, outperforms the field this month.
  • Overall since Jan. 2018 - Bitcoin miles ahead of the pack, and only one close-ish to break even point.
  • Combining all three three years, Top Ten cryptos underperforming S&P if I'd taken a similar approach.

Month Thirty Three – Down 76%

2018 Top Ten Summary for September
After a rough start to September, crypto spent the month trying in vain to claw back ground. While a few coins rebounded quite a bit from the monthly lows, most ended up finishing the month significantly down. Out of the 2018 Top Ten group, Bitcoin lost the least, down -8% in September. NEM followed it’s winning August (yes, you read that right) with the poorest performance, down -26%.

Question of the month:

Which cryptocurrency exchange won approval to create America’s first crypto bank in September?

A) Binance B) Binance.us C) Kraken D) Coinbase
Scroll down for the answer.

Ranking and September Winners and Losers

Rank of 2018 Portfolio - 50% no longer in Top Ten
A lot of shuffling in September. On the upside, Bitcoin Cash and Cardano gained one place each landing at #5 and #10 respectively. Cardano gets special mention for re-entering the Top Ten.
Heading the wrong direction were IOTA, NEM, Dash, and Stellar each falling two or three spots.
The big story though, for long time crypto watchers, was the ejection of Litecoin from the Top Ten, down five places from #7 to #12 in just one month. For some context, Litecoin’s absence from the Top Ten is a Top Ten Experiment first. It is also the first time since CoinMarketCap has tracked crypto rankings that Litecoin has not been in the Top Ten.
Drop outs: After thirty-three months of this experiment 50% of the cryptos that started 2018 in the Top Ten have dropped out. NEM, Litecoin, Dash, IOTA, and Stellar have been replaced by Binance Coin, Tether, BSV, LINK, and most recently, DOT.
September Winners – Although it lost -8% of its value, this month’s W goes to Bitcoin. ADA gets second place, down -15% and climbing back into the Top Ten.
September Losers – As most probably expected after an extremely out of character victory last month, NEM came back down to earth in September, bigly, down -26%. Litecoin finished right behind, down -24% and dropping out of the Top Ten.
For the overly competitive, below is a tally of the winners of the first 33 months of the 2018 Top Ten Crypto Index Fund Experiment. Bitcoin still has the most monthly wins (8) and Cardano in second place with 6 monthly wins. With its poor September performance, NEM now has 7 monthly losses.
Ws and Ls - One clear winner
Every crypto has at least one monthly win and Bitcoin is unique as the only cryptocurrency that hasn’t lost a month yet since January 2018.

Overall update – BTC solidly in the lead, followed by ETH. Dash in the basement, LTC drops out of the Top Ten.

Even though BTC took a bit of a detour on its way back to break-even point, it is still far ahead of the field, down -17% since January 2018. The initial investment of $100 thirty-three months ago is now worth about $83. Second place Ethereum is down -49% over the same time period.
At this point in the 2018 Top Ten Experiment, Dash is at the bottom. It is currently worth $70.49, down from a January 1st, 2018 starting price of over $1,000. That’s a loss of -93%. The initial $100 invested in Dash 33 months ago is now worth $6.77.
The big story this month is LTC’s departure from the Top Ten, the first time since I started the experiment back in January 2018. Whether or not it will eventually fend off the new generation of coins remains to be seen, but it certainly is noteworthy to have one of the most well known and long standing cryptos drop out of the Top Ten. Consider pouring one out for Litecoin.

Total Market Cap for the entire cryptocurrency sector:

The crypto market lost over $35B in September and is down -39% since January 2018. The value of the overall crypto market is near where it was in August of this year, just a few months back. As painful as the beginning of the month was, looking at a table like this helps with perspective, especially if you’re panic prone.

Bitcoin dominance:

After steadily dipping for months, BitDom increased a bit in September, up to 57.5%.
For some context: since the beginning of the experiment, the range of Bitcoin dominance has been quite wide: we saw a high of 70% BitDom in September 2019 and a low of 33% BitDom in February 2018.

Overall return on $1,000 investment since January 1st, 2018:

The 2018 Top Ten Portfolio lost -$50 this month. If I cashed out today, the $1000 initial investment would return about $238, down -76% from January 2018.
September broke an encouraging upward trend, but at least the portfolio is taking a break from the -80% range. Here’s a look at the ROI over the life of the experiment, month by month, for some context:
33 Monthly ROIs on Top Ten since Jan 2018
The absolute bottom was -88% back in January 2019.
So the Top Ten Cryptos of 2018 are down -76%. What about the 2019 and 2020 Top Tens? Let’s take a look:
So overall? Taking the three portfolios together, here’s the bottom bottom bottom line:
After a $3000 investment in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 Top Ten Cryptocurrencies, my combined portfolios are worth $‭3,340‬ ($238+ $1,538 +$1,564).
That’s up about +11% for the three combined portfolios, compared to +31% last month.
Here’s a table to help visualize:
Combined ROI on $3k over 3 years - UP +11%
That’s a +11% gain by investing $1k on whichever cryptos happened to be in the Top Ten on January 1st for three straight years.
But surely you’d do better if you went all in on one crypto, right?
Depends on your choice. Let’s take a look:

ETH for the win
Only five cryptos have started in the Top Ten for all three years: BTC, ETH, XRP, BCH, and LTC (unless Litecoin can make a comeback by the 1st of Jan. 2021, it’s not going to make the four year club!). Knowing what we know now, which one would have been best to go all in on?
Ethereum, by a pretty good margin: the initial $3k would be up +104%, worth $6,118 today. The worst choice of a basket to put all your eggs in at this point in the experiment is XRP, down by almost one third.

Comparison to S&P 500:

I’m also tracking the S&P 500 as part of the experiment to have a comparison point with other popular investments options. The S&P 500 Index fell from an all time high in August, but is currently up +26% since January 2018.
S&P since Jan. 2018
The initial $1k investment into crypto on January 1st, 2018 would have been worth about $1260 had it been redirected to the S&P.
But what if I took the same invest-$1,000-on-January-1st-of-each-year approach with the S&P 500 that I’ve been documenting through the Top Ten Crypto Experiments? Here are the numbers:
  • $1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2018 = $1260 today
  • $1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2019 = $1350 today
  • $1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2020 = $1050 today
Taken together, here’s the bottom bottom bottom line for a similar approach with the S&P:
After three $1,000 investments into an S&P 500 index fund in January 2018, 2019, and 2020, my portfolio would be worth $3,660.
That is up +22% since January 2018, compared to a +11% gain of the combined Top Ten Crypto Experiment Portfolios.
That’s an 11% swing in favor of the S&P 500 and breaks a two month mini-streak of wins from the Top Ten crypto portfolios.
S&P vs. Top Ten Crypto Experiments
That’s seven monthly victories for the S&P vs. two monthly victories for crypto. The largest gap so far was a 22% difference in favor of the S&P in June.

Conclusion:

September was a tough month for both traditional and crypto markets. What’s next for the rest of 2020? More volatility is no doubt to come as we enter the last quarter of a truly unpredictable and exhausting year. Buckle up.
Thanks for reading and for supporting the experiment. I hope you’ve found it helpful. I continue to be committed to seeing this process through and reporting along the way. Feel free to reach out with any questions and stay tuned for progress reports. Keep an eye out for my parallel projects where I repeat the experiment twice, purchasing another $1000 ($100 each) of two new sets of Top Ten cryptos as of January 1st, 2019 then again on January 1st, 2020.

And the Answer is…

How Cardano can prevent staking from being centralized around a a single entity with multiple pools ?

Hi, I'm just wondering if big exchanges like Binance or Huobi decide to run multiple staking pools, then even with the saturation mechanism in place, I think staking will still be centralized around these exchanges, because they already have a lot of customers, established credibility & financial resources therefore will likely attract a lot of delegators. Any thought on this ?Thanks in advance for the answer.

Weekly update. 437 BTC were traded using LocalBitcoin last week, trading Bs. /BTC and BTC/Bs. (Bolivares, Venezuelan "official" currency, ISO VES). These 437 BTC were 1,852,000,000,000 Bs. One BTC is around 4,600,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is less 2 USD. PhD uni professor earns 4 USD monthly.

Hi guys, wanted to updated last week numbers.
This is only measured in BTC and LocalBitcoins. There are other exchanges that accept Bolivares like Binance and Airtm but I think they dont have a open API. Paxful stoped working here a few weeks ago.
And remember, two years ago 5 zeroes were deleted from the currency. So the price of the BTC would be 460,000,000,000,000 "old" Bs.
September will closed with around USD 20,000,000 (around 2000 BTC) traded with LocalBitcoin
Here are more stats https://www.usefultulips.org/combined_VES_Page.html
Monthly minimum wage is 800,000 Bs. one USD is around 440,000 Bs. So that is where the 2 USD monthly comes. These 800,000 Bs. already include a cash food bonus.
https://www.caracaschronicles.com/
Moons, tips and work by reddits have helped me so much!
Some people insist that minimum monthly wage is not real, but it is. I have relatives that are public workers and earn that. Some with studies and time working could reach 20 minimum wages according to the tables, that would be anyway under 50 USD monthly.
Private companies, well a little more. A cashier in a supermarket could earn around 50 USD monthly.
The Venezuela College of Engineers, has a table for the recomended wages. The minimum wage they propose for a engineer without any experiencie is 90,000,000 Bs. / monthly, which is around 200 USD. And... good luck finding a place that pays that
http://www.civ.net.ve/uploaded_pictures/70_d.pdf
One professor with PhD, national science award and 21 years teaching earns less than 4 USD monthly. You can see the testimony here https://twitter.com/katika48/status/1304506604147159040?s=19 (I think you have the option to trasnlate the tweet)
The average income of Venezuelan is 0.72 USD daily (2020 numbers), so we are talking around 20 USD monthly, and that is an AVERAGE with all that means.

Ultimate glossary of crypto currency terms, acronyms and abbreviations

I thought it would be really cool to have an ultimate guide for those new to crypto currencies and the terms used. I made this mostly for beginner’s and veterans alike. I’m not sure how much use you will get out of this. Stuff gets lost on Reddit quite easily so I hope this finds its way to you. Included in this list, I have included most of the terms used in crypto-communities. I have compiled this list from a multitude of sources. The list is in alphabetical order and may include some words/terms not exclusive to the crypto world but may be helpful regardless.
2FA
Two factor authentication. I highly advise that you use it.
51% Attack:
A situation where a single malicious individual or group gains control of more than half of a cryptocurrency network’s computing power. Theoretically, it could allow perpetrators to manipulate the system and spend the same coin multiple times, stop other users from completing blocks and make conflicting transactions to a chain that could harm the network.
Address (or Addy):
A unique string of numbers and letters (both upper and lower case) used to send, receive or store cryptocurrency on the network. It is also the public key in a pair of keys needed to sign a digital transaction. Addresses can be shared publicly as a text or in the form of a scannable QR code. They differ between cryptocurrencies. You can’t send Bitcoin to an Ethereum address, for example.
Altcoin (alternative coin): Any digital currency other than Bitcoin. These other currencies are alternatives to Bitcoin regarding features and functionalities (e.g. faster confirmation time, lower price, improved mining algorithm, higher total coin supply). There are hundreds of altcoins, including Ether, Ripple, Litecoin and many many others.
AIRDROP:
An event where the investors/participants are able to receive free tokens or coins into their digital wallet.
AML: Defines Anti-Money Laundering laws**.**
ARBITRAGE:
Getting risk-free profits by trading (simultaneous buying and selling of the cryptocurrency) on two different exchanges which have different prices for the same asset.
Ashdraked:
Being Ashdraked is essentially a more detailed version of being Zhoutonged. It is when you lose all of your invested capital, but you do so specifically by shorting Bitcoin. The expression “Ashdraked” comes from a story of a Romanian cryptocurrency investor who insisted upon shorting BTC, as he had done so successfully in the past. When the price of BTC rose from USD 300 to USD 500, the Romanian investor lost all of his money.
ATH (All Time High):
The highest price ever achieved by a cryptocurrency in its entire history. Alternatively, ATL is all time low
Bearish:
A tendency of prices to fall; a pessimistic expectation that the value of a coin is going to drop.
Bear trap:
A manipulation of a stock or commodity by investors.
Bitcoin:
The very first, and the highest ever valued, mass-market open source and decentralized cryptocurrency and digital payment system that runs on a worldwide peer to peer network. It operates independently of any centralized authorities
Bitconnect:
One of the biggest scams in the crypto world. it was made popular in the meme world by screaming idiot Carlos Matos, who infamously proclaimed," hey hey heeeey” and “what's a what's a what's up wasssssssssuuuuuuuuuuuuup, BitConneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeect!”. He is now in the mentally ill meme hall of fame.
Block:
A package of permanently recorded data about transactions occurring every time period (typically about 10 minutes) on the blockchain network. Once a record has been completed and verified, it goes into a blockchain and gives way to the next block. Each block also contains a complex mathematical puzzle with a unique answer, without which new blocks can’t be added to the chain.
Blockchain:
An unchangeable digital record of all transactions ever made in a particular cryptocurrency and shared across thousands of computers worldwide. It has no central authority governing it. Records, or blocks, are chained to each other using a cryptographic signature. They are stored publicly and chronologically, from the genesis block to the latest block, hence the term blockchain. Anyone can have access to the database and yet it remains incredibly difficult to hack.
Bullish:
A tendency of prices to rise; an optimistic expectation that a specific cryptocurrency will do well and its value is going to increase.
BTFD:
Buy the fucking dip. This advise was bestowed upon us by the gods themselves. It is the iron code to crypto enthusiasts.
Bull market:
A market that Cryptos are going up.
Consensus:
An agreement among blockchain participants on the validity of data. Consensus is reached when the majority of nodes on the network verify that the transaction is 100% valid.
Crypto bubble:
The instability of cryptocurrencies in terms of price value
Cryptocurrency:
A type of digital currency, secured by strong computer code (cryptography), that operates independently of any middlemen or central authoritie
Cryptography:
The art of converting sensitive data into a format unreadable for unauthorized users, which when decoded would result in a meaningful statement.
Cryptojacking:
The use of someone else’s device and profiting from its computational power to mine cryptocurrency without their knowledge and consent.
Crypto-Valhalla:
When HODLers(holders) eventually cash out they go to a place called crypto-Valhalla. The strong will be separated from the weak and the strong will then be given lambos.
DAO:
Decentralized Autonomous Organizations. It defines A blockchain technology inspired organization or corporation that exists and operates without human intervention.
Dapp (decentralized application):
An open-source application that runs and stores its data on a blockchain network (instead of a central server) to prevent a single failure point. This software is not controlled by the single body – information comes from people providing other people with data or computing power.
Decentralized:
A system with no fundamental control authority that governs the network. Instead, it is jointly managed by all users to the system.
Desktop wallet:

At Swipe, the team always makes sure to listen to the voices of our users. In October, the team has announced various Swipe Improvement Proposals (SIP), product upgrades and migration, additional coin listings, and partnerships to make your cryptocurrency experience as easy as possible.
Swipe Verified Pages
Swipe’s Instagram, Facebook, and Telegram accounts are now officially verified. Make sure to follow only the official pages of Swipe to get the latest offers, news, product developments, and updates.
Also, please be reminded that Swipe has only two official channels:
T.me/SwipeWallet (verified)
T.me/Swipe (Announcement Channel)
Swipe Discord Channel
The team has officially opened a Discord channel to connect with users who have Discord accounts.
Swipe gave away a total of $1,000 in Swipe Token (SXP) to 10 random winners who joined the Discord channel and followed Swipe’s official Twitter account. The ten winners were announced last October 6 on Swipe’s Discord channel.
Updates on Swipe Cards & Migration
The Swipe Slate card is now upgraded to 8% cashback with $30,000 referral rewards activated immediately, same rebates, and on-chain staking rewards with governance. The monthly spending limit for Swipe Slate is also now upgraded to 50,000 Euros.
Other Swipe cards such as Saffron, Sky, and Steel will be migrated to the Binance card platform. Users of these cards will be able to use it and SXP lockups via their Binance account, including the migration of benefits and rebates.
SXP lock-up card tiers for Binance cards and Swipe cards ordered on Binance.com will be released soon to match up to existing benefits, perks, and rebates. Swipe Slate will remain on the Swipe Wallet platform for SXP Elite users.
This move shows Swipe’s commitment to push the Swipe Issuing platform products to businesses, like Binance, which will help the SXP deflationary ecosystem.
Swipe Improvement Proposals
Last of October, the Swipe team announced on its official channel the voting procedures for the Swipe Improvement Proposals (SIP) on Swipe Governance.
On October 5, Swipe announced the voting procedure for the Swipe Improvement Proposal 1 (SIP-1). Those who staked SXP can vote to upgrade the staking contract to add a reward claim period controlled by SXP holders. On October 8, the team announced that the SIP-1 has now passed with 3,456,709 $SXP staked for YES while 0 SXP for No.
SIP-3 was then made available on Swipe Governance last October 22. Staked $SXP can vote on upgrading the staking contract to add an unstake period for $SXP collateral. This proposed unstake contract upgrade enables a dynamic period in which new stakers have to wait to be able to remove their collateral from the network via a decentralized trustless system. On October 25, SIP-3 has been passed, with 5,283,856 $SXP staked for YES while 119,080 $SXP for NO.
This was followed by the announcement of the voting procedures for the SIP-4. Those who staked $SXP can vote in favor of, as well as against, the increase in the daily staking rewards for on-chain $SXP users securing the Swipe Network. However, SIP-4 had an issue in execution due to inadvertently adding a “space” in the proposal parameter, which throws a smart contract error. This was tested before deploying, and when it was copied, the space was accidentally added in.
The team re-proposes SIP-4 via SIP-5, which is now available on Swipe Governance. This proposal corrects the parameter with SIP-4.
View the details of the Swipe Governance Proposals here: https://app.swipe.org/dashboard
Coin Listings
Swipe has added several coin listings on its platform. Adding to its list of supported cryptocurrencies are Venus Protocol ($XVS), Near Protocol ($NEAR), Kusama ($KSM), Ocean Protocol ($OCEAN), Filecoin ($FIL), and $AAVE. Swipe users can now buy and sell these cryptocurrencies with credit/debit cards, instant exchange, and trading, and spend it using Swipe Visa cards.
Swipe Visa Fund Sources
Swipe Visa Cardholders can now select $BUSD and $USDT funding sources in the “Card” tab on Swipe Wallet mobile application. Use Swipe card and convert fiat in real-time and earn up to 8% cashback and top brand rebates.
Swipe Visa Cards in US
Swipe Visa Cards are now available in the United States (excluding New York) with invites already rolled out last October 9.
Virtual Cards will be issued with Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay enabled. Physical cards will be shipped soon. Users can now finish their Social Security Number (SSN) verification to receive the Virtual Card. Physical cards will be linked and will activate your Digital Checking account.
The team also announced its plans to launch and an enhanced cashback program in the region soon. Swipe Visa card US users can earn up to 20% additional cashback (on top of the up to 8% Bitcoin cashback offer) at participating top and local retailers.
SXP Wrapped in BSC
$SXP wrapped on BSC is coming. The team will enable fee-free wraps and launch cross-chain staking when this deploys. This will save users high fees and latency currently faced on Ethereum.
Swipe Slate Staking Rewards
Swipe has distributed the first week and second week of Swipe Slate on-chain staking rewards to Slate cardholders last October 13 and 20. Swipe Slate cards can be ordered with a 30,000 $SXP stake lock up, which includes 8% Cashback in BTC, top brand rebates, and on-chain staking rewards.

The SXP staking campaign will run for 200,000 BSC blocks from block 1582740 to 1782740 (approximately 6.5 days with a block time of 3 seconds), which means that there will be 0.5 SXP given out to SYRUP holders in each block.
BEP20 SXP will also be circulating and transferable on BSC when PancakeSwap starts the SYRUP pool, so users will be able to harvest your SXP tokens and trade on PancakeSwap at any time.
Also, earn $CAKE by being a liquidity provider for $SXP-BNB on Binance Smart Chain with double rewards for approximately seven days followed by 1x on-going. To wrap your $SXP from ERC20 to BEP20, just deposit $SXP into your Binance Account and withdraw via the Binance Smart Chain option. The Swipe Wallet app now supports BEP20 BSC deposits for all supported coins.
Simply use the same address you normally use to deposit ERC20 based supported cryptocurrencies to deposit Binance Smart Chain BEP20 based ones such as $SXP, ETH, etc.

A whole new kind of lightning & fiat interface through debit cards? Announcing lastbit

Soon after Satoshi made his big announcement more than a decade ago, a lot of concerns emerged pointing towards a crucial problem on his solution: scalability. Particularly since Mt. Gox, a lot started to change for Bitcoin. Out in the open, a multitude of crypto exchanges started popping up making Bitcoin and other coins easily accessible to pretty much anyone. Nevertheless, the original concerns on Satoshi’s proposal remained. In parallel and away from the spotlight, a group of passionate developers started crafting the solution to Bitcoin’s scalability problem. Today the solution is here and it’s name is the Lightning Network.
Currently, users can access for free a wide range of Bitcoin Lightning wallets. Nevertheless, instant Bitcoin payments are still far from mainstream. Most of these wallets are extremely hard to use and as such are only catered to the most experienced of users. Despite that, the future of Lightning looks bright. As of today, there are over 11K Lightning nodes out there and this number is steadily growing. Lightning’s case of becoming the solution to Bitcoin’s woes looks strong.
Holding that as a North star, we started building a solution to combine hardware level security with Lightning to enable instant Bitcoin to fiat transactions on hardware at a POS through debit card emulation. This project was overly ambitious and we quickly realized not enough people cared enough about hardware level security for payments. But the ground we covered was not in vain. During the process of building our hardware solution and talking to our beta users we came across a powerful discovery: enabling small and instant Bitcoin payments with zero fees to mainstream users via Lightning could be the way to finally make Bitcoin a widely and globally used means of payment.
During the last few years, we’ve seen titans, such as Coinbase and Binance, emerge. Undeniably, these projects have helped Bitcoin tremendously by raising awareness and making onboarding to the cryptocurrency easy and intuitive globally. Nevertheless, an equivalent figure to position Bitcoin as a globally usable currency via Lightning is yet to come.
With this in mind, we built an interoperable payments layer between Bitcoin (Lightning & On-Chain) and Euros (to start with), using payment instruments familiar to mainstream consumers, namely IBAN’s and debit cards. This means, users can move between Bitcoin and Euros in either direction, with a single interface.
This will allow users to:
-(i) Send and receive Bitcoin payments both form and to Lightning wallets and Bitcoin on-chain wallets;
-(ii) Send and receive Euro payments both from and to IBAN’s and debit cards;
-(iii) Make Bitcoin payments, both Lightning and on-chain, directly from Euro denominated IBAN’s and/or a debit cards; and
-(iv)Top-up Euro denominated debit cards directly with Bitcoin.
All of this was carefully built in response to what we heard from the community and as we mention throughout our story. We’ve dedicated the last few years of our lives and the foreseeable future to make this happen and we simply want to make it possible for more people to do things with Bitcoin.
TLDR: Lastbit is putting out a beta application that contains a single interface to Bitcoin, Lightning, Euros and debit cards. This app will allow users to move between these payment instruments in any direction they like. Get paid in Euros from a Lightning invoice? Sure. Pay Euros to a Lightning invoice? Sure. Swipe a debit card and pay for your purchase with a Lightning invoice? Sure. And more.

*We are still in beta and will soon start to roll-out in Europe

A List of Defi Projects to Keep in Mind?

Do you have a special list of DeFi projects that you monitor from time to time? Things are finally moving again in crypto and now that Bitcoin made tremendous steps towards reaching old highs I think that it is time to start thinking about altcoins. If this is really the start of a new bull run that won’t end like 2019, there is a chance for the entire market to blow up, including DeFi.
Ethereum developers launched the deposit contract for ETH 2.0 a few days ago. I think that you can tell how much people are interested in altcoins based on the number of ETH deposited in that contract. They already have 34,245 ETH which is really a lot considering that the address is public for such a short time.
The price has also caught people’s attention IMO since it finally caught up with Bitcoin. I mean, it is still a long way from reaching old price levels such as $600, $700, $800, or even higher but we are still going in the right direction. I think that people notice that and that they become more interested in altcoins, rather than just Bitcoin.
I plan to prepare myself for the next DeFi wave if it comes. The first one made the market increase 10 times in size and if interest keeps piling up the market may grow even more. Feel free to check DeFi Pulse and you’ll see the parabolic growth that DeFi had since June this year. The number of collateral people that have locked increased from around $1 billion to $10 billion in like three months. Just imagine what could happen with massive adoption levels.
Feel free to chip in name the project that you use and like most. For me, it definitely has to be Anyswap since it served me perfectly. I know about it since July when it was originally launched and I try to keep up to date ever since. I really believe that there is something about this project that helps people and that it is not just another Uniswap clone.
The other day, the team announced Anyswap V2. It’s a new protocol version that should massively improve scalability, its existing cross-chain functions, and other things as well. They have been working really hard to connect with other networks and Anyswap already collaborates with platforms like the Binance Smart Chain.
I was amazed to hear last week that Binance included them into their accelerator fund, which is meant to help DeFi projects. There is a tweet from CZ which shows all of the projects that have worked with Binance and you can see Anyswap on there.
It is interesting that it is the only platform besides Binance Token Canal that is listed in the cross-chain section. And to be honest, there is really no project other than AnySwap right now that offers the interoperability capabilities that DeFi needs right now. After all, users should be free to connect, interact, and exchange with different networks all from one place. So far, Anyswap is the only platform that does that and it specifically focuses on decentralized finance.
Let me know what you think, have you heard about Anyswap, and if so, do you like it? I’d also love to hear about some of the projects that you guys like. After all, I may just spot another gem :)

What is the best cryptocurrency to invest in right now?

What is the best cryptocurrency to invest in right now?

Traders worry every day about which cryptocurrency to invest in. The crypto market, however, is still difficult to predict. There is no simple answer as to which coins will win the race in 2020.
The guarantee: Bitcoin
Bitcoin will always be a good investment. Satoshi Nakamoto’s invention continues to lead in terms of market capitalization and trade volume. Almost every crypto exchange can trade Bitcoin and it is the cryptocurrency that is used the most.
If you can or just want to invest in a single cryptocurrency, Bitcoin is always a good choice. The first true peer-to-peer currency is still the number 1 cryptocurrencies. So far, there is no indication that Bitcoin will be thrown from the throne in the foreseeable future.
The next Bitcoin Halving will also take place in 2020. This means that fewer coins are distributed during mining. The available amount grows more slowly, so that every single coin becomes more valuable as soon as the demand increases. Many investors expect price increases after halving.
It is not guaranteed that Bitcoin will experience the biggest growth in 2020. But it’s the most stable cryptocurrency to invest so far.
Advantages:
– Strongest market dominance, largest trading volume
– The most widely used cryptocurrency worldwide
– Secure facility
Bitcoin alternatives
Bitcoin clones could also be a safe investment: cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Bitcoin Gold (BTG), Litecoin (LTC) or Bitcoin SV (BSV). These cryptocurrencies are mostly faster and more technically advanced than Bitcoin, but will not be able to break its market dominance in the foreseeable future.
They have the same purpose: digital means of payment for the Internet. Your prices often move parallel to the Bitcoin price, but can also rise or fall with a time delay. Some of them have the potential to grow faster than their template, but it is not guaranteed.
– Good alternative to diversification
– Potential for big price gains
Binance Coin (BNB)
The Binance Coin (BNB) is the cryptocurrency of the largest exchange in the world: Binance. The Exchange has expanded considerably in recent years and plans to continue doing so in 2020. An investment in the Binance Coin is equivalent to an investment in the Exchange.
The Binance Coin can be used to trade on the cryptocurrency exchange. If you buy cryptocurrencies with her, you get discounts on your purchases. Binance coins therefore have a benefit for every trader. Binance will soon start a decentralized exchange called Binance DEX, on which in turn the in-house cryptocurrency can be used as a means of payment.
That makes the Binance Coin extremely liquid. Shortly after the start of the cryptocurrency, it was able to get a permanent place in the top 10 largest cryptocurrencies on CoinMarketCap. In 2019, the BNB price tripled.
– Extremely liquid cryptocurrency
– Currency on the largest exchange: Binance
– Could already gain good prices
Tron (TRX)
Tron is a blockchain platform from Justin Sun, an important figure in the crypto scene. An independent ecosystem for the entertainment industry is to be created on the platform. Every user should be able to upload their own videos, pictures, music, texts etc. without being dependent on companies like YouTube.
Basically, it’s a smart contract platform, similar to Ethereum (which is also a good investment). Users can upload data, make it available to other users and write their own smart contracts.
Tron now attracts a large number of investors. There is a lot of potential in the project. In 2017, Tron’s price rose from EUR 0.0018 to EUR 0.045. In 2018 and 2019, the cryptocurrency gained more and more ground in the crypto world and is now among the top 15 in terms of market capitalization.

Kraken in support of Bitcoin Cash Node [BCHN]

However, Kraken has joined those who are supporting the Bitcoin Cash node Group. The crypto trading platform, which recently received a license to operate as a bank, said it will support the Bitcoin Cash Node irrespective of the outcome of the proposed hard fork.

The exchange also revealed it has the intention of using the “BCH” ticker for the non-developer fund implementation. It also confirmed its support and stance by referencing less than 1% of those for Bitcoin Cash ABC against the 70% of a network offering support for Bitcoin Cash Node.

According to the exchange, it will credit users who are holding BCH during the Bitcoin hard fork with the same number of Bitcoin Cash ABC. The exchange also stressed that it will happen only when the new version attracts enough hashpower.
Some other exchange platforms have accepted that they are going to take snapshots of user balances. They will also credit their accounts with any new crypto formed during the hard-fork. Okex, Huobi, and Binance are some of the exchanges that have agreed to credit user accounts with the newly formed crypto. https://blog.kraken.com/post/6795/bitcoin-cash-hard-fork-on-november-15-what-kraken-clients-need-to-know/

Weekly update. 521 BTC were traded using LocalBitcoin last week, trading Bs. /BTC and BTC/Bs. (Bolivares, Venezuelan "official" currency, ISO VES). These 521 BTC were 1,985,000,000,000 Bs. (ATH in Bolivares). One BTC is around 4,000,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is around 2.1 USD.

Hi guys, as you might know I'm a Venezuelan "living" here.
September keeps the trend around 500 BTC traded weekly. Usefultulips reports 4,000,000 USD in September so this month could see a increase.
The trade is only measured using LocalBitcoin, there are other exchanges like AIRTM (this one banned by the Goverment), Uphold, Binance and so on, but no open data as far as I know. Most of the Localbitcoin trades are in Bolivares (BTC to BS and BS to BTC).
Here are more stats https://www.usefultulips.org/combined_VES_Page.html
Monthly minimum wage is 800,000 Bs. one USD is around 370,000 Bs.

Weekly update. 437 BTC were traded using LocalBitcoin last week, trading Bs. /BTC and BTC/Bs. (Bolivares, Venezuelan "official" currency, ISO VES). These 437 BTC were 1,852,000,000,000 Bs. One BTC is around 4,600,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is less 2 USD. PhD uni professor earns 4 USD monthly.

Hi guys, wanted to updated last week numbers. You probably saw my post about the moons

Here's a Look at the Listing of renBTC on Binance

Here's a Look at the Listing of renBTC on Binance
According to a recent announcement from Binance - arguably the world's largest crypto-exchange by trading volume, renBTC has been listed on the platform and opened trading for RENBTC/BTC and RENBTC/ETH trading pairs at 1:00 PM UTC on Nov. 9, 2020. In addition, Binance's users were allowed to deposit renBTC, making preparations for trading, beforehand.
renBTC is a 1:1 representation of Bitcoin on Ethereum, which can be redeemed for BTC at any time, in any amount. It anticipates that this listing has a significant impact on the price of the crypto-asset. At the time of publication, renBTC sits at $15,208.37 with a 24-hour trading volume of $423,112.

As per a report by eToro, as a matter of fact, listings and partnership announcements usually exert a huge, immediate, and positive impact on the price of an asset. Whenever a newer asset that was previously listed on markets lack of liquidity get placed on a huge trading venue, the potential price influence is the greatest, which is due to the fact that markets previously did not embrace that coin on any of the other larger exchanges.
renBTC is now most active on Huobi platform. But it does not boast a large number of trading volume or much liquidity.
Its listing on Binance platform for sure will change the current situation. As a matter of fact, the Binance effect can be found that coins listed on the exchange have showed a sharp and northbound price trajectory over the past 24 hours since the exchange claimed to list this coin. The latest example is AUDIO, with the token surging dramatically on the back of Binance Labs’ investment and the exchange's listing.
What's more, Aug. 31 saw the listing of Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) on Binance, causing the same effect on its price.
The interesting thing is that renBTC is also a free listing, different from most listings that ask 1,000 BNB to be a standard fee to be listed. http://en.icointime.com/post/075349988956.html

Weekly update. 485 BTC were traded using LocalBitcoin last week, trading Bs. /BTC and BTC/Bs. (Bolivares, Venezuelan "official" currency, ISO VES). These 485 BTC were 1,796,000,000,000 Bs. One BTC is around 4,100,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is around 2 USD. PhD uni professor earns 4 USD monthly.

Hi, hope you are doing ok. I'm "ok" considering the situation, but it is ok.
And remember, two years ago 5 zeroes were deleted from the currency. So the price of the BTC would be 410,000,000,000,000 "old" Bs.
September keeps the trend around 500 BTC traded weekly. Usefultulips reports 14,000,000 USD traded in September so far.
The trade is only measured ONLY using LocalBitcoin, there are other exchanges like AIRTM (this one banned by the Goverment), Uphold, Binance and so on, but no open data as far as I know. Most of the Localbitcoin trades are in Bolivares (BTC to BS and BS to BTC).
Here are more stats https://www.usefultulips.org/combined_VES_Page.html

PSA: scammers on Tinder and possibly other dating apps

I want to warn you all of scammers on Tinder. There are profiles of Asian women looking somewhere mid tweenties on tinder that after a brief convo on tinder itself give you a (in most cases) UK phone number to continue chatting in WhatsApp. Sometime during the chatting they mention a new "investment possibility" in a new crypto coin "Huawei 5g joint Bluesky Biomedical defence" or short "HWS". If you don't bite at first, they ask you every at least once if you want to join and get more insisted every time. They lure you on to binance.com (which is a legit site) to buy bitcoin, 5000$ at first to get a "beta membership. Which you then transfer to a site hwsex.org and exchange for HWS chips. When you ask if or when you can exchange back to bitcoin and transfer back to binance, they tell you you have to" invest" at least 2 bitcoin to get a "full membership" with which you could then do that (which you can't obviously). Before anyone asks, yes I was dumb enough to fall for it (not for the full 2 btc but I burnt 0.5btc on it)
Pleas everyone be careful if someone from tinder (could also be male scammers out there) talks about crypto and some new investment. Here the link to the crypto scam subreddit https://www.reddit.com/cryptocurrencyscams/comments/huj8li/beware_of_cryptocurrency_scam_wwwblueskybtctop/?sort=new

Here's Why There's a Decline of Bitcoin Trading Volume in October

According to a report by CryptoCompare, crypto trading volumes decreased by 17.6% last month, which is a surprise for those holding the crypto market was just filled with good news last week.
October saw Bitcoin spiraled upward, reaching a peak of $15,889 on Friday, up from roughly $10,500 at the beginning of last month.
However, as per the report, there were large decreases in overall spot trading volumes for exchanges that accurate figures are considered to be posted by the market research firm.
On Binance platform, the trading volume hit $75.7 billion, a 33.1% decrease in comparison with last month. Huobi Global posted volumes of $41.7 billion, down 31.4%. Volumes on OKEx which suspended the service of withdrawals following police apprehended its co-founder, showed a 42% decrease. Coinbase fell 17.5% to $11.3 billion, Kraken fell by 13% down to $6.5 billion, and Liquid fell by 4.3% to $6.1 billion.
https://preview.redd.it/ln2xcsearby51.jpg?width=880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e229346c9c687e11273340bac9fb681c90791890
Pedro Febrero - an analyst at Quantum Economics - noted that the decline is due to two potential reasons.
"First, it seems an increasing number of coins are being HODLed," he stated. Febrero believed that the increased number of active Bitcoin addresses indicates that how "there has been lots of activity," and the average transaction value increased last month as well. He held that "Both metrics show that users are in fact using BTC, but they are not sending it to exchanges."
CryptoCompare's spokesperson Constantine Tsavliris echoed his opinion. "The higher volatility in September and Bitcoin's decline from $12,000 to $10,000 generated significant trading volume. In October, there has been an almost uninterrupted rally and this lack of price reversal and volatility has led to a decline in month-on-month volumes," he stated.
The second reason Febrero believed is that traders are locking in Bitcoin on decentralized exchange Uniswap, which seemingly takes advantage of liquidity fees provided by the protocol or trades on the exchange.
Over the past 30 days, the total amount of Bitcoin locked in Uniswap had increased from 24,000 Bitcoin to 30,000 Bitcoin, as per the metrics site DeFi Pulse.
"What this shows is a continuation of the yearly trend that more and more users are switching from [centralized exchanges, such as Binance] to [decentralized exchanges, such as Uniswap]," said Febrero.
Uniswap's daily trading volume actually once outpaced that of Coinbase Pro over the summer. As noted by a dashboard on Dune Analytics, volumes have decreased by 18% over the past month. However, volumes remain still higher than before the beginning of bull run over the summer. http://en.icointime.com/post/705762298159.html
